2025 House Cup

GSCC NewsReel

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Over the summer break, there were some additions made to our College Hall, with six large house banners now hanging on the front walls. Displaying them in such a prominent way is a very intentional move, for we want every single visitor to our, including each of our students and staff members, to have a constant visual reminder of who we are, what we represent, what we stand for, and our purpose as members of the Good Samaritan community.

Written at the bottom of each banner, in large bold font, again very intentionally, are the values attached to each of our house patrons. They are powerful words, representing the values that each of our house patrons lived by when they were present here on earth. Mercy, compassion, love, justice, nurture and service are reminders to each of our students to live lives that are kind, meaningful and faith-filled.

It is extremely challenging to live by these words at all times. Each of us in the school community know that it can be very difficult to have these values at the forefront of our minds at all times. However, we need to try. And this is what the 2025 House Cup is all about. It is about students doing their best as often as they can, so that they can have a positive impact on the people around us, a positive impact on their house, and most importantly, a positive impact upon our school community. It is about healthy competition, not seeking attention or validation, diminishing others, or winning at all costs. It is about building house spirit not only for the betterment of their house, but for the betterment of the whole school, now and well into the future.

The count for the 2025 House Cup began in Term 3, Week 6, 2024 - the week after Good Samaritan Day. Moving forward, the winners of our annual house cup will be announced at the end of Good Samaritan Day, which this year is in Term 3, Week 5. Approximately two weeks after the winners are announced, the winning house will be able to celebrate together with a specially planned excursion. More details will be released about this in future months!

Throughout the year, students always have an opportunity to contribute positively to their house, and their school community. Whether it’s awards in class, the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, or partaking in co-curricular activities, everything positive earns points for their house. And as healthy as the competition might get, and as much as each student wants to win, we are all encouraged to never forget the true meaning of the House Cup, and the values that are written at the bottom of our large house banners. Mercy, Compassion, Love, Justice, Nurture, Service.

Kind regards,

Dominic Wilson
